SteamOS 3.9.4 Beta released for Steam Deck

The Beta update adds bug fixes and experimental features.

Valve released SteamOS 3.9.4 Beta for Steam Deck’s Beta and Preview channels. Enable it under Settings > System > System Update. Notes include changes since stable 3.8 and additions to previous 3.9 releases. It remains a test version with experimental features.

Fixes address occasional Steam Machine firmware-update failures, a timezone bug blocking Desktop Mode and regressions delaying loads in games such as A Plague Tale: Innocence. It also fixes 720p screenshots, reduces audio clicks on 3.5mm headphones and revokes authority certificates with insecure private keys.

A producer’s perspective

Rapid experimental features could trade off against overall Deck stability if regressions have not been tested on all hardware models. Actual impact needs beta-user crash rates and integration-test coverage across configurations.
