Rumour: Rockstar artists have worked on GTA VI for eleven years, Reddit post says
The new title’s art team reportedly grew to around sixty-five people.

A GamingLeaksAndRumours Reddit post claims some Rockstar artists began working on GTA VI’s map in 2015, continuing for eleven years. Some reportedly did not work on Red Dead Redemption 2 because they were assigned to the new game from the start.
The post also alleges several designers left Rockstar over a lack of progress caused by indecision and too many project leaders. It attributes to Aaron Garbut a statement that no individual employee knows the entire project because of its scale. GTA VI’s weapons system was reportedly designed to limit the arsenal, inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2, but the classic weapon wheel remained after months of experiments. The art team allegedly grew from five or six people on GTA V to around sixty-five on GTA VI.
A producer’s perspective
The post claims an art allocation beginning in 2015 and a team of about 65. If real, such a long commitment could constrain resources for other internal projects, increasing the risk of delays or reduced content elsewhere. Assessing that trade-off requires overall staffing plans and the art department budget.
