Modern Warfare 4: DMZ focuses on persistent operators and crafting
Xbox Wire details progression, equipment and operator recovery. Digital pre-orders grant early DMZ access from 20 October.
DMZ ties loot to preparation for the next incursion. In its 9 October report, Xbox Wire describes the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 mode: on Hajin, players gather resources, fight enemies and rival operators, and try to extract.
The base’s 3D printer builds equipment using specific resources and ingredients. Recipes unlock through progression or can be found in the field.
Operators retain progression: players begin with two slots and unlock a third. Successful extractions advance dog tags, earning points for three specialisation trees.
A missing operator can be dismissed or recovered using DMZ currency. The cost rises with investment in skills. Recovery preserves acquired traits but not equipment.
Early access to DMZ is scheduled from 20 October for digital pre-orders.
A producer’s perspective
The production issue is dependency between systems. Loot, recipes, progression and recovery cost must work together: adjusting one can alter the others’ value. As a producer, I would track how defeat affects the desire to start again, distinguishing beginners from experienced teams. This interprets the presented design, rather than describing the team’s internal processes. Announced rules show what to measure; they do not yet prove the balance works.
