Fountains adds Gauntlet mode on Xbox
The Gauntlet update, challenging players to face every boss in sequence, is now available.
Xbox Wire confirmed that Gauntlet mode is now available for Fountains on Xbox, following the console release. Originally designed on PC for demanding soulslike fans, it has been adapted as a post-credits challenge against a sequence of bosses. A trailer accompanies the announcement.
Gauntlet pits players against all ten Fountains bosses consecutively, with rest areas after the third, sixth and ninth encounters. Each victory teleports the player to the next arena. Consumables used during the run are returned afterwards, allowing players to spend them without fear of running out permanently. Breaks allow healing flasks to be refilled and equipment changed; the team suggests experimenting with builds to overcome different boss mechanics.
A producer’s perspective
The announcement confirms the Xbox release of Gauntlet. A potential trade-off concerns balancing difficulty when consumables are returned after a run: it might lessen experienced players’ perception of challenge while increasing testing work to ensure consistency between breaks. Completion figures and Gauntlet session abandonment rates would be needed to assess the impact.
