Rumour: Reddit post says Xbox plans no Halo Studios transfers to Activision
A small team reportedly remains on community support and a December content update.
This is a rumour attributed to the stated source. Its contents have not been verified as an official announcement.
According to RebsGaming’s 7 October 2026 Reddit post, no Halo Studios staff have transferred to Activision. Some executives were laid off, while Pierre Hintze and Chris Matthews remain. Hintze’s 30-person team on the in-market title is not part of Activision and no transfer is planned. A small group continues to support the Halo community and current games.
The same post says Matt Booty told remaining staff to prioritise Halo Fest and an expanded campaign update. A small group is reportedly developing content including Firefight and Theater for December, though layoffs could change plans. The source says neither the team nor Pierre has Activision contacts or knowledge of the Halo project Activision is developing.
A producer’s perspective
The Reddit report describes a small group of around thirty working on a December update with Firefight and Theater. If layoffs reduced staffing, parts might need cuts or postponement to meet the deadline. Assessment requires the exact developers still assigned and estimated hours for each mode.
