Rumour: Epic delays Disney shooter with Star Wars and Marvel, pushes AI-first development

Jason Schreier reports the project planned for March has slipped and teams are being asked to use AI tools throughout production.

This is a rumour attributed to the stated source. Its contents have not been verified as an official announcement.

According to Jason Schreier’s Bloomberg report on 12 October 2026, Epic Games delayed an unannounced shooter developed with Disney, expected to include Star Wars and Marvel characters. Originally planned for March, it reportedly has a new internal deadline that has not been made public.

Schreier also reports that Epic is pushing AI-first production using tools such as Anthropic’s Claude. A project director allegedly told staff “No more hand-written code”, with all graphics to come from AI workflows. Despite years of Epic’s AI efforts, Schreier says this would be the first major publisher to develop a whole game this way, within a partnership in which Disney invested $1.5 billion in 2024 across multiple projects.

A producer’s perspective

The report says Epic delayed the March project and is imposing AI-first development with Claude. Technical consistency could suffer if generative tools fail to deliver the expected quality, potentially causing further delays. Assessment requires the percentage of assets already AI-produced and planned review times.
